1956 Underwood Leader

This is a vintage 1956 Underwood Leader typewriter (serial number CA2661673).

Cosmetics: The cosmetics of this machine are good since it sports an eye-pleasing two-tone paint in dark and light blue. You will notice a lot of subtle chrome and other accents that you might find on more fully-featured machines. The Leader was meant to be a bare-bones typewriter -- just enough functionality to do what a typewriter needs to do without any of the bells and whistles. That design aesthetic shows through in this simple-looking, yet elegant, machine. The rubber feet are all original and intact, and the bell dings sweetly. The body is practically flawless, with a few minor scuffs here and there. The carriage return works perfectly with single, double, and three line spacing.

Keyboard Action: In a word: snappy! That's the best word we know of to describe how these machine types. It is responsive to the touch with nice-sized light-beige key tops that seem large enough without being too large.

Print Clarity: This machine print nicely on paper! Where some of the Smith-Coronas and Royals may be a bit fuzzier, certainly not this Underwood. It's as clear as it can be. Very nice output for a manual typewriter.

We would recommend owning this Underwood Leader if you like a simple and clean design from vintage typewriters, which is quite a pleasure to use. The original carrying case is in good condition, with a few stain blemishes, and the unit snaps perfectly in place once inside. The single metal latch closes and functions properly. If you like having just the basics, you'll enjoy using and owning this Underwood.

This beautiful machine will be gently packed and handled with the utmost care and will be sent to you by registered USPS mail that includes a tracking number.
