1967 Smith-Corona Super Sterling
Made by Smith-Corona
An excellent workhorse that can definitely be used heavily and reliably.
This is a splendid, American-made, two-tone "starmist" blue Smith-Corona Super Sterling typewriter, which was manufactured in 1967 (serial number 6SS-134891). The Super Sterling is fairly common and popular, and for good reason -- they're an excellent machine to type on.
This typewriter has an Elite typeface (slightly smaller than normal), however, it's still very crisp and legible. Cosmetically, this typewriter is in near mint shape except for a few unnoticeable scuffs in the back of the frame. This was one of Smith-Corona's last manual portable designs, which went unchanged for decades because it was just about perfect.
This typewriter is one of our personal favorites, particularly because it combines SCM's trusty and smooth mechanism featured on all their 1950s-1980s manual portables with attractive, modern body design.
Mechanically, it is in excellent shape and is fully functional right down to the bell. Did we mention that it is an amazing typer? Keep in mind that this machine has an "elite" typeface, meaning that it types in 12 characters per inch rather than the standard 10 (the font is a slightly smaller size than normal). This typewriter is an excellent workhorse that can definitely be used heavily and reliably.
This model is also extremely easy to use and care for and uses universal ribbons (a huge plus). A fresh new black/red ribbon is installed for immediate use, and ready to type for quite a while. This Super-Sterling comes with a handful of extras and comes with an original copy of the owner's manual and a key to lock the carrying case.
If you are looking for an iconic beauty to use heavily and reliably, then this is an excellent option, and one of our highest recommendations.
