1970 Olympia SM9 Deluxe
Made by Olympia
American authors, Neil Simon and Harlan Ellison, wrote their best work on an SM9.
This is the extraordinary Olympia SM9 De Luxe manual typewriter which was manufactured in Western Germany in 1970 (serial no. 400060). This typewriter has been very well kept, preserved, and protected for 50 years. Olympia machines are known to be a top-of-the-line midsize portable, the SM9 was Olympia's defining machine. Olympia made 4 different versions of the SM9; that's how dedicated they were to perfecting this model.
Universal ribbons fit this machine. For your convenience, a fresh new bichrome ribbon has been installed for immediate use.
Mechanically loaded with all the features one expects from a full-size office typewriter, the SM9 easily surpasses most machines in its class. Its touch is super-fast and smooth, the basket shifted carriage is wonderfully light and efficient and the dark keytops are generously sized to help ward off finger fatigue.
The SM9's interior is in superb mechanical condition and all functions are in full working order. The body paint is a semi-gloss bone-white and the plastic keytops are charcoal. The travel case is in good condition, with some minor chips in the back, felt lining interior and working closure. The metal body has minimal signs of age-related usage but does not affect performance in any way.
With its writer-preferred Elite No. 60 typeface, yielding 10 characters per inch, the De Luxe SM9 stacks quite the word count. And the SM9's fine German engineering and superb craftsmanship mean you never have to think about it -- just type and be productive.
This machine will put you in touch with literary history: Neil Simon, playwright extraordinaire, wrote some of his best plays and movie screenplays on his SM9. Harlan Ellison, the celebrated American writer, known for his prolific and influential work in fiction, wrote on an SM9. Now, that's what we like to call an iconic typewriter!
The Olympia SM9 is a writer’s typewriter. One of the all-time fastest typewriters ever built, the SM9 may look like a tank but it drives like a GT Roadster. If you're the productive type, who thinks fast and types even faster, then this machine is for you. And if you're looking for a beautiful, solid, and reliable typewriter that will easily outlast modern technology, then this is one would be a top choice.
